Athlete of the MonthNovember

Jason Willis

How old / young are you?   41 years old. What is your occupation? Project Manager at Sturgeon Electric Co. When did you join Widespread CrossFit? May 2015.  Proud to be in the Wranglers Club! Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try? After learning about CrossFit in 2012, I mentioned to my wife that I’d like to try CrossFit.  My wife found and bought me a Groupon deal for me.  The rest is history. What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit? High School Varsity Football and Wrestling What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit? Since I began Crossfit I’ve noticed that I’m stronger and I sleep better.  Now that I’ve dialed in my Nutrition, I feel like I did when I was in High School.   What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit? Work hard and show up as often as possible.  Give 100% on every workout. What is your favorite and least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement? My least favorite movement is “running”.  It’s a weakness of mine and I’m trying to change my view on it.  My favorite movement is “Thrusters” I know I’m weird but it’s a movement that targets your entire body and is good for you! What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?   After completing the 2014 CrossFit Open, I made a goal to place within the top 20% of the 40-44 Masters Athletes in the world for 2015.  I was happy when I achieved this goal. What do you like to do outside of CrossFit? I’m an avid outdoorsman.  I love to hunt, fish, camp, ride ATV’s and be outside with my family. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? I absolutely love pizza and beer. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? Back in my college days I used to travel across the country riding bulls on the college rodeo circuit. Who or what inspires you the most? As far as looking up to a CrossFit Athlete I’d have to say Rich Froning.  Not just because he’s a 4 time games champion but because he is a down to earth family man that lives by the same values as I do.   What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? This is a difficult question as I have many goals.  I’m accomplishing one goal as we speak.  I’m living a healthier life through fitness and nutrition.  I’d also love to be at a point where the things I do through CrossFit positively affect and motivate others to live a healthy lifestyle as well.
