Athlete of the MonthSeptember

Don Anderson

How old / young are you?
Just turned 48 years young

What is your occupation?
Real Estate Appraiser. I have a license with the State of Colorado and have been appraising for 26 years.

When did you join Widespread CrossFit?
Beginning of June this year.

Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try?
I was looking for something different and challenging and I definitely found it.

What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit?
I played all kinds of sports but football and soccer were the main sports.

What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
Besides feeling like I was hit by a Mack truck every day, I feel stronger and have a ton more energy. As far as performance, some days feel like a setback but most are improvements. They might be small gains but they’re satisfying.

What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Be consistent. I have tried to keep a schedule to some degree and really stick to it during the week. Also, don’t be intimidated by the incredible athletes at Widespread. Everyone is so encouraging.

What is your least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement?
WALL BALLS! Enough said about that.

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?
Really can’t pin point any one WOD. However, finishing any WOD is an accomplishment along with beating my previous time or exceeding my previous weight.

What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?
I enjoy camping, boating, hunting and fishing.

What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal?
Mexican food. I love green chili and green chilies.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I am a Colorado native and have been hunting and fishing since I was young kid. Spending time elk hunting with my son, Dan, and the guys is probably my most favorite hobby. At times it is like an all day WOD because you hike 8-10 miles a day and when it’s all said and done hopefully packing out lots of Elk meat. We have two tags this year and would love to share our harvest with my Widespread friends if successful.

Who or what inspires you the most?
Many things inspire me but my mom and dad are probably tops. They worked very hard to put my sister and I through college along with a great home to grow up in.

What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?
At my age I don’t think I’ll be setting the CrossFit world on fire. But if I can work hard and improve every day, that would be both my short and long term goal.
