What brought you to CrossFit?
I grew up in a small town in Nebraska, where sports and staying active was a way of life. There was never a need to find a gym, or to put much thought into working out because there was always basketball, volleyball or track practice to go to. After moving away from my small town, I found it difficult to find a gym routine that I could stay consistent with. I would start out very motivated , but quickly got tired of the same ole elliptical routine. My fiancé had been doing CrossFit for a little over a year and he constantly asked me to try it out, I finally agreed to try the On-Ramp class at Widespread and was immediately hooked.
First impression and has that changed? If so, how?
I had no idea what to expect when I went to my first On-Ramp class. I was absolutely terrified that I would look like a complete idiot and everyone would be rude and judgmental. I honestly thought the current members would be less than welcoming to a newbie, but I was SO WRONG! The first day of class went great, I felt like I was back in sports practice and everyone was so encouraging, members and coaches alike!
What are you currently working on and how have your goals changed since starting?
My biggest goal when I started class was simply to get in better shape. After going to Widespread for a few months, I have realized that my goals are much more about getting stronger, working on form and being able to RX workouts than they are to get in shape.
Favorite Widespread CrossFit memory?
There have been so many great memories at Widespread, but my favorite memory was actually one of my first classes as a member. I was the only person who signed up and lucky for me the workout consisted of a couple of my favorite things, running and burpees, Matt, Kari and Nick were all there and kept pushing me to finish. The workout was hard and I was exhausted, but I felt so accomplished finishing the workout and not giving up!
Successes so far and what you are looking forward to in the future?
I feel like you succeed every time you go to class. There are never easy workouts and that alone makes showing up, working hard and finishing so rewarding. The camaraderie between the members and coaches is great and I love being a part of it all!
