How old / young are you? This question violates HR Policy, you can’t ask this! I’m 48. As my hippy friends say ‘timeless mind, ageless body’ (worst/best saying ever). What is your occupation? I’m a financial manager for a large telecom company. When did you join Widespread CrossFit? Roughly 3.5 years ago (??) time flies! Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try? I was such a one-trick pony with cycling. I was helping a buddy move a couch and it fell on me (from above) because I was so damn weak. We were on the floor laughing, but I knew then I HAD to do something! What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit? Cycling was my life for way too long. I quit cold turkey in my early-20’s and for almost a decade was guiding rivers and mountains all over. I have a healthy relationship with the bike again (kinda/sorta). What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit? I can lift/move couches! Increased cardio ability, more explosive on the bike and pain free after a long bike/ski/mountain day. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit? First – have fun! Trust the process/coaching and do the work! The results will follow. Half the time, I feel like poo, then you have a magical workout! Oh, and come to the 6pm workouts – we’re the cool kids. Spicoli out… What is your favorite and least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement? I have the flexibility of a bowling ball so least favorites: anything where you bend over or use your hips/hammies (don’t take out of context!) and running causes mild discomfort. Favorites: box jumps, burpees, sleds and anytime Kari/Matt let me use the PINK kettlebell. What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far? Running 1 mile. Seriously, that was my Everest. I thought I was going to cry. Leadville 1.0 baby! What do you like to do outside of CrossFit? Frequent Asian buffets – I mean ride my bike(s), ski and hang out with my wife and dog. Does anyone tele-ski? Seeking a fellow free-heeler! What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? Wow, this would be an insanely long list. I have a huge weakness for bakeries (and meat and cheese and butter and Dr. Pepper). What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I truly lived in a van, down by the river. Who or what inspires you the most? My Shaman Healer. Just kidding – people that just get after it and keep going! What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? Defy the aging process! Asian don’t raisin!
