Athlete of the MonthJuly
How old/young are you? I am old enough to dye my hair purple to hide the gray. What is your occupation? I have been a certified nurse midwife for 15+ years. I’m taking a prolonged/maybe permanent break from the actual birthing part, but I still love working with women. When did you join Widespread Fitness? I joined Widespread Fitness right before the pandemic closed everything. What was your athletic background before starting? I’ve dabbled in a few different things – swimming, biking – but I think of myself as a runner whose life got in the way. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? I can definitely see an increase in strength – lifting the kitty litter bags has gotten easier. And I have a lot of cats that require a lot of litter. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? Just do it now, it’s never going to be a better time. Unless it’s 101° – then tomorrow might be better. What is your favorite and least favorite exercises/movement? I like lifting – things like sumo deadlifts. The girls don’t like bouncy things like jumping jacks. What is your most memorable moment so far? I’m guessing the marathon row is going to stick around in my memory (or at least my back’s memory) for a while. What do you like to do outside of the gym? I read, sew, and quilt. I also love paddle boarding at Lake Powell but Carter Lake will do. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? I love anything salted caramel. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I have two plates in my right arm because I am clumsy. The clumsy part should not surprise anyone. Who or what inspires you the most? The runner’s high. It’s real. What is one goal you would like to accomplish? I would love to run the New York City Marathon. (And not get swept)
