Athlete of the MonthJuly
How old / young are you? I am 49 years young What is your occupation? I am a Sales VP with Ecolab. Feel free to ask me about it sometime…it’s the biggest company you likely come in contact with everyday that you don’t realize! When did you join Widespread Fitness? I joined Widespread Fitness in March 2021. Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try? I had seen Widespread CrossFit for several years and was always too nervous to pop in as I had no experience with CrossFit. Then I saw the name changed from CrossFit to Fitness and got the courage to come in. I am so glad I did as I found a community of really great, like minded athletes that are both encouraging and inspiring, whom I now call my friends. I also found out that I really enjoy CrossFit! What was your athletic background before starting? I was primarily training for and completing endurance cardio events like running and triathlon. I also participated in several Spartan Races and some other group fitness programs prior to joining. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? I am significantly stronger and have much more explosive power in things like box jumps What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? Be patient and kind with yourself as you are getting familiar with the movements and intensity. Focus on form first and then increase weight, speed, height, etc. All of the workouts are really challenging, fun and rewarding and there is no need to rush progress and risk getting injured. Being out of the gym is NOT fun! What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement? My favorite exercise is box jumps and my least favorite exercise is absolutely the sled push. What is your most memorable moment so far? My very first group workout at Widespread was a CossFit Open workout. I jumped right into the deep end of the pool and haven’t looked back since! What do you like to do outside of the gym? I really enjoy skiing, hiking, traveling and watching Michigan State / Philadelphia sports. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? I LOVE street tacos and fresh margaritas. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? In 2013, I decided to change my lifestyle and lost 70 lbs which I have kept off. Who or what inspires you the most? I am very inspired by people that challenge themselves to achieve new personal heights, even when they are nervous and uncomfortable. The human body and mind are capable of tremendous things when we lean in and believe. What is one goal you would like to accomplish? I will be able to do 10 strict pull-ups in a row. My record is 4 so far…
