Athlete of the Month November
How old / young are you?
41
What is your occupation?
VP of Analytics at Charter School Growth Fund, a philanthropy
nonprofit
When did you join Widespread Fitness?
A little over 1 year ago
Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try?
I had just moved here to Broomfield and wanted to find a
local CrossFit gym. I did CrossFit on and off (mostly off) in the
past and wanted to make a new commitment with my fresh
start in Colorado. I googled, and Widespread was the closest
gym to my house; I knew it would have to be close for me to
start going, so I gave it a try and never looked back!
What was your athletic background before starting?
I was a collegiate gymnast and competed in NPC/IFBB fitness
competitions back in the day. But then took a loooong break
from any kind of fitness after entering the real world after
college.
What changes in your health, physique, and overall
performance have you seen since starting?
Major changes! I have lost 30 pounds and increased my
cardio and muscular endurance a LOT. I have started being
able to do skills that I haven’t been able to do in 20 years or
ever. But the most exciting thing for me is actually getting
my double unders!
What advice would you give to someone with regards
to starting?
It’s scary to go in for your first class; but when you get there,
you will be at ease in moments. The Widespread coaches are
amazing at tailoring the workouts for each person’s fitness
level in class. Then, after your first class, figure out a
schedule that works for you to keep coming in consistently.
Get into a routine and keep showing up and you will start to
see little bits of progress that will motivate you to keep
going!
What is your favorite and least favorite exercises /
movement?
My favorite movements are any gymnastics movements (of
course) and the Olympic lifts! My least favorite is definitely
running.
What is your most memorable moment so far?
I competed with some of the Widespread ladies in a local
Girls Gone RX competition to benefit breast cancer charities;
it was an amazing experience! I recommend that any and all
ladies keep this on your radar for next year.
What do you like to do outside of the gym?
I just started doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu; I love it so far! I also
love having “girls days” with my daughter and sister; getting
our nails done, shopping, hiking, going on adventures, etc.
What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal?
Pizza and wine. 🙂 I just discovered Quinto pizza in
Westminster; I reccomend it!
What is something people would be surprised to know
about you?
I started a foundation called Love Like Lexi Foundation in
honor of my youngest daughter, Lexi, who we lost to cancer a
couple of years ago. We financially support local families who
have kids in cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital
Colorado, and give grants to promising pediatric cancer
research.
Who or what inspires you the most?
My 8-year old daughter, Sadie. I want to be a good model of
health for her and I want to be healthy enough to live a long
time with her!
What is one goal you would like to accomplish?
Someday, I would like to finish one of the CrossFit Open
workouts under the time cap!
