How old / young are you? 33 What is your occupation? I am an oral surgery assistant so I deal with fun, gross things like tooth extractions, dental implants, biopsies, and jaw fractures. When did you join Widespread CrossFit? I joined Widespread CrossFit about a year and a half ago. Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try? I used to do CrossFit about 8 years ago. My husband Andrew finally convinced me to come back to it after months of persuasion. Also, I watched some of the in-house competition which really made me want to try it again. What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit? I did all kinds of sports as a kiddo, but stuck with soccer all through high school. After that, I got my degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. I was a personal trainer for a few years which was when I used to do CrossFit. Ever since then I have tried to stay active with things like running, lifting weights, and kickboxing. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit? Since I started at Widespread, my cardio has improved immensely. I am way better at burpees than I ever thought would be possible. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit? Do it!!! If you’re feeling nervous or unsure about trying it, everything can be modified to suit your comfort levels. What is your favorite and least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement? Favorite: pull-ups and box jumps Least Favorite: thrusters, front squats, wall-balls What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far? It would have to be the Girls Gone Rx competition this past September. It was so fun to work out with a team and see the amazing female athletes working hard! What do you like to do outside of CrossFit? I like to hang out with friends/family/our dogs, read, kickbox, watch movies, and eat delicious food. I also have an intense love for beer and tequila but I’ve been trying to cut back on that lately. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? Nachos! What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I can wiggle my ears and one-hand clap. Who or what inspires you the most? My parents inspire me because they both have auto-immune diseases but manage to stay active and awesome anyway. Also, anyone who deals with ongoing injuries and chronic pain inspires me to power through my own difficulties. What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? I would like to be able to do multiple consecutive chest to bar pull-ups.
