Athlete of the MonthApril
How old / young are you? 46 years old What is your occupation? Realtor When did you join Widespread Fitness? 5 1/2 years ago Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try? For me it’s because I have zero motivation in the gym when I’m by myself. I can go lift weights mindlessly and not push myself at all, then go get a drink at the water fountain to kill some time, then maybe lift some more but not really, it’s just not motivating for me at all. The classes are so much better and the group mentality pushes me, along with Kari yelling, it’s way more effective. What was your athletic background before starting? I played sports in high school and college, then after college I switched to leisure sports like beer softball and golf. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? Well, I am a bit of a yo-yo in that I will go hard for a period of time and then take more time off. I am on a good run now and trying to stay with it. I notice when I’m on a good run of attendance, I sleep better, I feel better during the day and just generally am in a better spot mentally. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? The best advice is too ‘just keep showing up’, it sucks and I feel like the coaches are trying to torture me, but if you keep showing up it gets easier and the results come quickly. What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement? I hate burpees with the heat of a thousand suns. When I started, Matt showed me a video of a guy in a tongue-in-cheek video that stuck with me. The guy is in his car, getting ready to go into a CrossFit gym and he says in a motivational voice “Do I like CrossFit, Fuck NO! But I’ve lost 30 pounds and I’m not quitting!” What do you like to do outside of the gym? I love to golf, listen to live music, and travel. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? I absolutely love food, my wife tells me it’s my love language so there is not just one ‘cheat’ food because I love to cook with a passion. But, if I had to choose just one, it would be baked ziti. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? Nothing, I’m an open book. Who or what inspires you the most? My daughter inspires me the most to get healthy, I think about walking her down the aisle (in 10-15 years I hope) What is one goal you would like to accomplish? Right now, I would like to continue to make it to class 3 times per week through the rest of 2022, I have several big trips planned (Mexico and Italy) and want to be in better shape.
