Athlete of the MonthApril
How old / young are you? 35 What is your occupation? I am a Major Account Executive at Alpine Waste & Recycling. I sell trash, recycling and composting services for retail businesses. The shopping center where Widespread CrossFit is located is my customer! When did you join Widespread CrossFit? September, 2015 Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try? Jayme McBreen is 100% responsible for me joining CrossFit! Jayme lives 2 houses down from me, and while walking to the mailbox she convinced me to join. I was very hesitant, especially after going to the intro class….I wasn’t very good! Now, 7 months later, it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come! What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit? I didn’t do a lot before CrossFit. To be totally honest, I was pretty lazy! I was busy having babies and doing fad diets to try and lose the weight! What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit? Since joining CrossFit the changes in my body have been amazing! I have always been on the thinner side, but I had no muscle tone. I couldn’t run around the block, let alone do a pull-up or lift weights. My body looks so different now! I have tone in my arms and legs. I swear I’m even starting to see little baby abs! The craziest thing is that I’m actually excited to wake up at 5AM to do these terrible workouts! I’m so proud of myself and almost can’t believe just how far I’ve come. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit? Just do it!!!! It’s so much more than just a workout, it’s a community of people who teach you, inspire you, cheer you on and become your friends. You’re not doing it alone, you’re doing it with your team. What is your favorite and least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement? I hate wall walks. HATE THEM!!! My favorite is a back squat, mainly because that’s where I can lift the most weight. What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far? I have a lot of memorable moments, but the thing I am the most proud of is finally doing a pull-up! It took a long time, and one day I just did it. I wasn’t even planning on it – it kind of just happened! What do you like to do outside of CrossFit? I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family, and spending time with my Husband, Jason, and our two little boys, Madden and Cameron, is my favorite. When it’s adult time, checking out all the new restaurants in Denver is my go-to thing. For me, it’s important to be more than just a “Mom” so having date nights with Jason is a priority! I am also a girls-girl and am lucky to have a great group of girlfriends! We try to do at least 2 girls’ nights a month! What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? Pizza. Every time. I love it! What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I can be pretty shy. Until I get comfortable I tend to be pretty quiet. Who or what inspires you the most? Everyone at WSCF inspires me. We all have jobs, kids, and busy lives; yet we all make time to for a one-hour workout. Some people have tiny babies that probably don’t sleep through the night, yet they are still there at 5:30AM (Vinay & Divya). The dedication and commitment from everyone at WSCF is contagious! I love seeing the new people get their first PR or run their first mile. I like watching the people who have been doing this for a long time – one day I want to be like them! I have 2 little boys and it’s important that I have the stamina to keep up with them. I want my kids know that the gym is not just a place for guys – girls are strong, too! Sharing CrossFit with my Husband also keeps me going. It’s fun to compete with each other and talk about the days WOD. It’s also very helpful to have his support & encouragement when we are on a nutrition challenge! What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? I want to master pull-ups and toes-to-bar.
