Athlete of the MonthAugust
How old / young are you? 51 What is your occupation? Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Outdoor Promotions When did you join Widespread Fitness? June 2021 Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try? My husband (J.B.) joined about 5 years ago, but I thought I was too out of shape to join. Yep, I know how this sounds. Last summer I decided that J.B. was so happy with his results, maybe I should give it a try. What was your athletic background before starting? I have been doing Pilates inconsistently for the last 4 years and regular walks with my dogs. It has been over 10 years since I had a regular exercise program. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? I have had so many great changes! I lost about 10 pounds and went down a size. My stamina has dramatically increased for simple things like getting through an airport or getting to your seat in a big stadium. The best change is my confidence. I am more open to trying new things and meeting new people. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? Don’t overthink it, just make your first appointment and the coaches will immediately make you comfortable. What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement? My least is plate jumps – they are hard on my ego! My favorite is ground plate overheads and farmer’s carry. What is your most memorable moment so far? There have been a couple of times towards the end of my workout when I start thinking “how am I going to tell Matt, I am not going to be able to finish?” However, Matt cheers me on, keeps pushing me. When I finish those workouts, I feel amazing! What do you like to do outside of the gym? I enjoy going to concerts with my husband, teaching Sunday School to young kids, and spending time with friends. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? My favorite is Mexican with lots of chips and salsa. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I come off as someone who speaks her mind, but I am much shyer than people realize. Who or what inspires you the most? My 99 year-old Grandma. She still lives at home and is super sharp. I can sit with her for hours and talk. She is full of so many great memories! I would love to be healthy enough to live so long and independently. What is one goal you would like to accomplish? Someday, I would like to be able to do a real box jump (instead of a plate jump) and long-term goal is to be strong enough to do class workouts.
