What is your occupation?
I am the Procurement Manager at Allegro Coffee.
When did you join Widespread Fitness?
I joined Widespread with the onboarding sessions with Matt in February, started 2 days a week in March, then needed more so moved to unlimited in May.
Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try?
I joined Widespread because I missed the activity, most of the other water polo mom’s live in Boulder and belong to Roots, always chatting about the workouts and PR’s, I needed to find a place near my home and my friend Charlie suggested Widespread.
What was your athletic background before starting?
My athletic background- I was into everything when I was younger, hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, volleyball. An accident during college cost me my feet and my activities dropped way down as I learned to navigate with prosthetic’s and no ankle motion. I tried CrossFit about 13 years ago and loved how I could still do much of the work, but modified. Change in job moved me away from that gym and I let it all go.
What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting?
The biggest change is my improvement in cardio and endurance, may seem like a stretch as I’m usually the last to finish, but when I began I was wheezing and coughing about 30 seconds into the workout.
What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting?
My advice for someone starting is to listen closely to the coaches, speak up if you have concerns or questions. They are all amazing and will find a way to scale to the individual. Also, if you were tempted but afraid to try…. Just do it, you will be so glad you did.
What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement?
Favorites are push press, cleans and ring rows. Also the battle ropes which is new for me and super fun.
What is your most memorable moment so far?
Most memorable- Veterans Day at 5:00pm, just Katie and I in class and we partnered for Bert. We just broke everything up into alternating sets of 5 and chipped away at it. I wholeheartedly thought I would die and we wouldn’t finish, but I didn’t die and we completed in around 43 minutes.
What do you like to do outside of the gym?
Outside of the gym I’m a club water polo mom to 2 kids, it’s a commitment and a lot of travel and tournaments.
What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal?
Cheat food. I like a good New York style pizza. Originals is my favorite in the area.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m a Colorado Native, Boulder girl, never lived anywhere else.
Who or what inspires you the most?
I’m inspired every time I go to Widespread. Just fun, supportive people. My kids also inspire me and keep me young. Though I now have a 16 year old driver which is aging me.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish?
I used to be able to do kipping pull ups, I would really like to be able to do them again.
