How old / young are you?
I am 25 years young.
What is your occupation?
I’m an RN. I am currently on an inpatient Oncology (Cancer) unit as well as per diem on an inpatient Psychiatric unit. I also just got accepted into an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program which I am super excited about!
When did you join Widespread Fitness?
I joined Widespread in September of 2019.
Why did you decide to give CrossFit a try?
I had tried CrossFit once before through a program through a previous college and loved it. I remembered how strong it made me feel and I always enjoyed that the workouts were always different and always challenging me. After I moved back out here and finished nursing school, I knew I wanted to try and find a CrossFit gym to get back into. I was very hesitant and nervous while looking around at a few different gyms, but I remember how comfortable and at ease Matt, Kari and other members of
Widespread had made me feel even just walking into the no sweat intro. I knew then that Widespread would be the match for me.
What was your athletic background before starting CrossFit?
I played soccer growing up and all throughout high school, had done CrossFit in college, and then tried to make it to the gym a couple times a week during nursing school but nursing school often had other plans haha. So, prior to coming into the on-ramp program, I felt very out of shape.
What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
My energy levels are way up, I get a lot less fatigued in day to day life. Running around on my 12-13 hour shifts is a lot less exhausting for me now than it was before prior to joining. I also have noticed some new muscles that have formed which is pretty cool!
What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Just go for it! The hardest part I think is just getting past that initial anxiety when walking into the gym that first time. Wondering if you’re going to be fit enough, if you can keep up, what others will think of you, etc. The best advice I can give in regards to that is to just to leave all of those anxieties/fears at the door and walk into it with an open mind. Once you get past that part, you will realize and be thankful for what a great step you just took towards a healthier mind and body.
What is your favorite and least favorite CrossFit exercises / movement?
Most favorite- anything that involves throwing around the barbell. Least favorite- BURPEES. And running.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?
My first PR! I remember thinking there’s no way I’m going to be able to do more weight than last time, it was hard enough then. And then I did by 10 or 15 pounds. I was amazed at how quickly I was already starting to become stronger.
What do you like to do outside of CrossFit?
I love reading, hiking, skiing, watching weird Netflix documentaries and hanging out with friends and family.
What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal?
Pizzzzza.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I am a die hard Harry Potter fan! I was one of those people that dressed up in my Slytherin get-up and waited in line 12 hours before the movie started. I still re-read all 8 books once a year. And it never gets old to me!
Who or what inspires you the most?
Mia Hamm was my big one growing up! To see her change the world and do so much for people not only on but off the soccer field, and how she helped to normalize women in the sports industry was just so inspiring to me as a young girl growing up and playing sports.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?
I would love to be able to do a pull up without a band one day!
