Athlete of the MonthOctober
How old / young are you? I am almost 17 years old. What is your occupation? I am currently employed in high school, specifically in the role of Junior. When did you join Widespread Fitness? I joined Widespread Fitness in 2018. Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try? I was looking for an off-season soccer activity that would keep me in shape. What was your athletic background before starting? I played soccer and did a little bit of cross country before starting. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? I have developed some knowledge on movements, found that my cardiovascular endurance has dramatically increased, as well as my general strength. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? It’s all about form. When starting out, go lighter than usual and really focus on form, because the first couple of workouts are some of the hardest you will face, since these workouts are a lot different than other workouts, and it will take a lot of energy and dedication to finish. What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement? I am a cardio person, so I love running, but, if I am forced to choose something with weights, I would pick dumbbell hang cleans. I find that they are extremely challenging in high reps and are really effective, but are not fun in the moment. My least favorite movement is the rowing machine. I have flashbacks to a workout that, let’s say, involved an excessive amount of rowing. I think it is effective, but I know it won’t be a good day if the workout has rowing. What is your most memorable moment so far? Honestly, my most memorable moment has to have been a cardio workout I did a couple of months ago. There were three of us, and the workout asked for three rounds of an 800m run to 75 double unders to either a 500m or a 1000m row. It was the hardest workout I have ever done, and as I mentioned before, I still flashback to the rowing. What do you like to do outside of the gym? I like to run, ski, bike with my dad and brother, and hang out with my family. I also lead a youth group every week and I find it fun to go hang out with a group of seventh graders for a couple of hours. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? This one is pretty difficult, as I usually don’t eat “cheat” foods, but the award has to go to a Chipotle burrito bowl with steak. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? When I was born, I weighed just over 4.5 pounds. I was a small baby, to say the least. Who or what inspires you the most? My family inspires me the most. I feel that when I workout, I am in a better mood, and as the eldest child, I feel that I need to be a good role model for my younger siblings, and working out/keeping up on health helps me with this the most. What is one goal you would like to accomplish? One of these days, I want to return to the cardio workout mentioned before and complete it. There was a 30 minute time limit to it and I was on the final row on my first attempt when the time ran out.
