Athlete of the MonthOctober
How old / young are you? 41 What is your occupation? I have my own fitness and nutrition business but recently left corporate wellness after 15 years. Also teach group exercise at Lifetime and Physical Education at Front Range Community College. When did you join Widespread Fitness? January 2021 Why did you decide to give Widespread Fitness a try? Unfortunately my previous CrossFit gym closed due to COVID so was looking to find a new home and community. What was your athletic background before starting? I have competed in sports (soccer and swimming) since I was 6 years old. My college degrees are in Exercise Sport Science and Sport Studies so have been doing some type of athletic/sport most of my life. What changes in your health, physique, and overall performance have you seen since starting? I do believe that CrossFit challenges me more than any other type of workout. I know I am stronger, leaner and more mentally resilient than before I started CrossFit. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting? Show up. Showing up is the hardest part. Listen to your body as you can always adjust as needed. Consistency beats perfection, every time. What is your favorite and least favorite exercises / movement? Favorite…all types of cleans and do not mind burpees or anything with a kettlebell. HATE toes to bar and snatches and I do not get along either. What is your most memorable moment so far? I loved rowing the marathon. Though I have pushed through a lot of workouts, I had some doubts about completing the marathon and it was awesome! What do you like to do outside of the gym? I love cooking, reading, traveling, music, watching college football (Go Oregon State Beavers!) coaching rec soccer and attending my kids sporting events. What is your favorite “cheat” food or meal? I eat moderately 95% of the time (consistency beats perfection) but love dark chocolate and all the cheese. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I am pretty much an open book but I LOVE 90’s/early 2000’s Hip-Hop music. Who or what inspires you the most? My sister who followed her dream of starting a farm inspires me in so many ways. My kids also inspire me to stay healthy and work hard inside and outside the gym. What is one goal you would like to accomplish? I would like to get that damn single jump out of my double unders and maybe improve my relationship with the snatch. 🙂
